Sometimes things just pile up. I caught three films last night before the weekend even started.

First off of course was Brave which was... good.

That's really all I can say about it. It should go without saying that it's visually awesome, but the story takes quite a while to go somewhere you haven't seen in a bunch of other movies. By all means, go watch it, but don't be surprised if it treads some familiar ground.

Later, once my mainstream film viewing was out of the way, I headed down to the Cinefamily to catch some proper films with the ugly pants and ironic mustache crowd, starting off with Beyond the Black Rainbow:

I'd like to recommend this movie, but that would mean ignoring the fact that I fell asleep several times in the middle of it. Since it's a completely atmospheric movie it moves really slow with little to no talking and the music, while cool, is hypnotic to put it kindly. Still, if you're looking to redecorate your rec room like a late-70's sci-fi science pod, it'll make a good reference.

I was able to shake off sleep long enough to then catch a midnight screening of Joseph Kahn's Detention, an utterly awesome batshit movie that defies description.

I don't even want to show the trailer because it paints the movie as a generic, run-of-the-mill high school slasher flick, and trust me, it's not a generic, run-of-the-mill anything. Let me just say that there's a time travelling bear and leave it at that. It even has a good performance from Dane Cook. How unique is that?

It's hitting DVD in a little over a month, so if you see it on Netflix, give it a whirl.
